Impact

Why is it important?

  • Sexual exploitation affects thousands of children across the UK every year
  • Children are most vulnerable between the ages of 13 and 15
  • It affects both boys and girls
  • Public places are often used to meet, groom and abuse young people

You are in a great position to spot the signs.

We all have a moral responsibility to protect children

There are a number of issues for businesses if CSE is or has happened or is even suspected.

The police have the powers to stop you trading while investigations are carried out if signs aren’t reported and a blind eye has been turned, failing to act or not having sufficient safeguards in place.

  • Licenced premises are governed by the Licensing Act 2003 – in which there is an obligation to the protection of children from harm.
  • If a taxi driver transports a child knowing or believing that child will be sexually exploited – During or after the journey , that driver will commit the offence of Trafficking – Modern Slavery Act 2015 and Sexual Offences Act 2003
  • Negative media attention –could seriously damage your reputation
